In a rare and candid conversation, former Mafia boss Mike Franzese shared his unique perspective on the infamous Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik, with whom he spent 11 years in prison. Franzese, who was incarcerated alongside the brothers in 1993, revealed that he had daily interactions with them and developed a close relationship.

Franzese observed that Lyle appeared to be the more dominant sibling, while Erik was more introverted and troubled. The brothers would often seek his counsel, and Franzese believes that their bond was genuine. However, he also sensed that they were struggling with deep-seated issues, particularly Erik.

During their conversations, Lyle partially opened up to Franzese about the alleged abuse he suffered at the hands of his father, Jose Menendez. Franzese recalled that Lyle’s eyes would flash with a desire for vengeance when discussing his father, hinting at a darker reality. “It was more than just getting beat,” Franzese said, suggesting that the abuse was more severe than physical.

Franzese also noted that the brothers were not well-liked by their fellow inmates, who would often taunt them as “parent killers.” The brothers’ reputation was further complicated by an alleged escape attempt, which led to their separation, with Erik being transferred to a different unit.

The Menendez brothers’ convictions are currently under review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. DA George Gascón confirmed that his office is examining new evidence, including a letter allegedly written by a cousin of the brothers accusing Jose Menendez of molestation. A former member of the band Menudo has also come forward with similar allegations.
