George Conway, a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, drew a stark comparison between Trump’s tactics and those of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Alex Wagner Tonight” on Friday.

When asked to analyze Trump’s recent comments on the federal response to Hurricane Helene, Conway suggested that Trump’s accusations were a form of psychological projection, where he attributes his own motives to others. However, Conway took it a step further, arguing that Trump’s behavior is reminiscent of a specific propaganda technique popularized by Hitler.

Conway invoked the term “große Lüge,” a German phrase coined by Hitler in his 1925 manifesto Mein Kampf, which translates to “big lie.” This tactic involves telling outlandish, larger-than-life falsehoods that are so audacious that people are more likely to believe them simply because they cannot fathom the audacity of the lie. Conway asserted that Trump has mastered this technique, using it to deceive the public and further his own agenda.

According to Conway, Trump’s lies about the 2020 election being stolen are a prime example of the große Lüge in action. He characterized Trump as a “pathological liar and a sociopath” who has become a toxic force in American politics.
