An eagle-eyed researcher has unearthed yet another unreleased feature by a major social media platform, known as X. The discovery was made by Nima Owji, a freelance app researcher, who previously exposed several beta features before their public debut.

The latest find, a feature that disables links in replies, has the potential to drastically reduce the number of spam posts on the platform. Users will have the option to select a box indicating they don’t want responses with links, according to Owji’s post.

X’s Senior Director for Security Engineering, Christopher Stanley, confirmed the feature’s existence, crediting his team with its development. This addition aims to thwart not only spam bots but also genuine users trying to promote their websites or services. On the flip side, the feature might hinder legitimate efforts to combat misinformation and promote reliable sources.

Owji’s earlier findings have revealed that X has been working on other features, such as an in-app currency for creators, enhanced ID verification to tackle impersonation issues, and even job listings for verified organizations in an attempt to compete with LinkedIn.
