Over the weekend in Chicago, there were multiple incidents of gun violence resulting in at least 16 people being shot, with two of them tragically losing their lives. According to CBS News, the first fatal shooting took place on Friday evening when a man was shot while driving on South Woodlawn Avenue and subsequently crashed. The second fatal shooting occurred early Saturday morning after an argument escalated and a gun was drawn, leaving the victim dead at the scene.

Many of the other shootings, while non-fatal at the time, occurred due to shots being fired from vehicles, heated arguments, and other acts of violence. Truth Voices also reported on a separate weekend where at least 23 people were shot, with two fatalities, in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Chicago.

The Chicago Sun-Times provided data showing that a total of 158 people were killed in the city from January 1 to May 11. These incidents of gun violence highlight the ongoing challenges faced by communities in Chicago and the urgent need for solutions to address this troubling trend.
