Tragedy struck the Utah State University community as 22-year-old football player Andre Seldon Jr. was found dead at Porcupine Reservoir. Seldon Jr., a talented athlete, had previously played for Michigan and New Mexico State before joining the Aggies.

The authorities were alerted after reports of a man jumping off the cliffs at the reservoir, who failed to resurface. A search operation ensued, and Seldon Jr.’s body was eventually recovered by the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team.

The university’s football program was left reeling in the wake of the tragedy, with interim head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Drelling expressing his heartfelt condolences to Seldon Jr.’s family. “He was an incredible person and teammate,” Drelling said, recalling their time together at New Mexico State.

Seldon Jr.’s football career began with a bang, earning All-American honors in his home state of Michigan. He initially attended the University of Michigan, but after limited playing time, he transferred to New Mexico State, where he flourished, accounting for 64 tackles and two interceptions in two years.

The former Wolverine was set to join the 2024 team at Utah State, but his life was tragically cut short. The university’s athletics department also expressed its condolences, with Vice President and Director of Athletics Diana Sabau saying, “We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre.”
