A United Airlines flight had to abort its takeoff from Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Monday when one of its engines ignited.
United Flight 2091, bound for Seattle, faced a delay due to an engine issue that United reported was “immediately addressed” by the local ground crew and emergency responders.
“I felt the impact on my window. As I looked, the engine was on fire and smoke was coming out,” recounted passenger Ivan Paloalto to local outlet ABC 7 Chicago.
An airline official confirmed to NBC 5 Chicago that the aircraft involved was an Airbus A320 with 148 passengers and five crew members on board at the time.
The Federal Aviation Administration responded by issuing a ground stop at O’Hare, temporarily suspending Memorial Day travel. Fortunately, all passengers deboarded normally, and no injuries were reported.
