United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern on Friday about the state of lawlessness in Gaza, saying that most aid entering the enclave is being looted. The situation, he stated, is a result of the war sparked by Hamas in October.

Guterres told reporters that “total lawlessness” and “chaos” in Gaza are hindering the distribution of humanitarian aid within the territory, emphasizing the need for an immediate ceasefire. He noted that “most of the trucks with humanitarian aid inside Gaza are now looted because this is a war that is different from any other one.”

The Secretary-General attributed the chaos to the constant attacks, bombings, and troop movements, which create an environment where Hamas can repeatedly retake control of areas. He added that Israel does not permit the so-called Blue Police to escort UN convoys, as the local police are linked to the Hamas administration, leaving a power vacuum and total lawlessness in most of the territory.
