The social network formerly known as Twitter has completed its transformation into X.com. The rebranding process has been ongoing for some time, with various aspects of Twitter already using X.com links since early April. Now, the entire domain has switched over, marking the end of the transition period and erasing the last remnants of the bird-themed app.

Elon Musk, the billionaire behind this transformation, had announced the shift from Twitter to X in July of last year. Musk has long envisioned creating an “everything app” named X, and Twitter served as the vessel for this vision. The evolution of X under Musk’s leadership has seen the addition of video and voice calls, along with various controversial decisions and changes that have reshaped the platform.

Despite the nostalgia for Twitter, the shift to X.com was inevitable given Musk’s history with the X.com domain. Since acquiring X.com in 1999 and reclaiming it in 2017, Musk has seen Twitter as a means to realize his X vision on Earth. The recent announcement of all core systems being on X.com signifies a significant milestone in this transformation.

While X may never fully embody Musk’s original dream, it has undoubtedly evolved into a platform distinct from Twitter. This final transition solidifies X as its own entity, separate from its predecessor. Whatever X may ultimately become, one thing is clear—it is no longer Twitter.
