While Donald Trump’s conviction in the New York hush money case may have sparked a wave of donations from his base and solidified support from numerous top billionaires in the country, a fresh poll indicates that the former president has lost some voter support following his guilty verdict.

A New York Times poll carried out from April to May showed Trump holding a three percentage point edge over President Joe Biden. However, a survey taken after Trump’s guilty verdict reveals that the former president now enjoys just a one percentage point lead over Biden.

Trump retained the support of 93% of voters who had declared their intent to vote for him in the April/May poll. Nonetheless, 3% of these nearly 2,000 voters from the initial poll now say they are backing Biden, while 4% are currently undecided.

Notably, a fifth of voters who disliked both candidates but initially leaned towards Trump have since distanced themselves. Among these, approximately half now endorse Biden, whereas the other half remain undecided.

A poll conducted by the New York Times and Siena College in November revealed that 7% of voters in six key battleground states would withdraw their support for Trump if he were convicted and sentenced to jail.

Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11, merely four days prior to the Republican National Convention.
