CBS News is facing a $10 billion lawsuit from former President Donald Trump, stemming from a contentious 60 Minutes interview with Vice President Kamala Harris that Trump claims was heavily edited to influence the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.

According to the lawsuit, Trump asserts that CBS News engaged in “partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference” through “malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion” designed to confuse, deceive, and mislead the public. The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of Texas federal court, alleges that the network aired a misleading version of the interview, featuring distorted answers from Harris that were not representative of her actual responses.

The complaint centers on a specific exchange in which Harris discussed the Biden administration’s involvement in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Trump’s legal team claims that CBS News “doctored” Harris’ response, which they describe as a “word salad,” to make her appear more coherent and decisive.

The lawsuit maintains that the network’s editing of the interview was motivated by a desire to promote the Democratic Party’s interests, particularly in light of Trump’s strong showing in the 2024 presidential election. Trump’s team argues that CBS News has a responsibility to accurately represent the truth, rather than distorting an interview to favor a particular candidate.

In a statement, CBS News disputed Trump’s allegations, insisting that no parts of Harris’ interview or her responses were edited. The network maintained that its reporting was a matter of editorial judgment, rather than deceitful manipulation of the news.
