In a recent interview with “60 Minutes,” Vice President Kamala Harris addressed concerns about the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of immigration policies. When questioned by correspondent Bill Whitaker about the surge in undocumented immigrants crossing the border during their first three years in office, Harris characterized the issue as a “longstanding problem” that requires comprehensive solutions.

Whitaker pressed Harris on whether the administration’s decision to loosen immigration policies had inadvertently contributed to the influx of arrivals, which quadrupled from the previous year under President Trump. Harris maintained that the administration’s policies were designed to “fix a problem, not promote a problem,” and emphasized that they had been working to address the issue from the outset.

When Whitaker asked if the administration’s approach had been a mistake, Harris sidestepped the question, reiterating that their policies were aimed at resolving the issue, rather than exacerbating it. Whitaker countered by pointing out the significant increase in arrivals during the administration’s tenure, but Harris argued that their efforts had ultimately led to a reduction in the flow of illegal immigration by half, as well as a corresponding decrease in fentanyl trafficking.

Harris emphasized the need for congressional action to comprehensively address the problem, suggesting that the administration’s efforts had been hindered by legislative gridlock.
