In a statement, Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized 60 Minutes for airing a “deceptively edited” version of Harris’s interview, which she claimed omitted some of the vice president’s most notable gaffes. Leavitt questioned why the program chose to edit out certain portions of the conversation and what else might have been left on the cutting room floor.
The Trump campaign’s demand for transparency comes after Harris’s interview was widely panned by critics, who ridiculed her for delivering a series of incoherent and rambling statements. Harris was also criticized for her response to a question about her shifting policy positions, claiming that her “values” had not changed despite her apparent reversals on several key issues.
Harris’s interview also sparked a fact-checking controversy when she claimed to have been “elected” the Democratic nominee, despite winning no votes in the primary process. In reality, Harris won the majority of delegates after Democratic Party leaders, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and Sen. Chuck Schumer, rallied behind her bid.
The Trump campaign’s X account mocked Harris’s performance, labeling her “Marxist” values as unchanged, while other critics described her as a “total train wreck.” The backlash against Harris’s interview has raised questions about her ability to withstand scrutiny on the campaign trail.
