I have found a few rain jackets that I really like for different outdoor activities. The Lululemon Cross Chill jacket, priced at $198, is slim-fitting and made of nylon, Lycra, and polyester lining. However, I found it not as soft or stretchy as the Showers Pass jacket. The Tracksmith Downpour jacket, priced at $400, is a 3-layer jacket with a PFAS-free DWR coating, a brimmed hood, and a 360-degree mesh panel for breathability. I am still testing it in the rainy Oregon weather but so far, it is one of the best jackets I have tried.

For biking in the rain, I recommend the Cleverhood Rain Cape. It can fit over your heavier clothes and has a generous cut to allow for layering. The anorak style is my favorite as it covers my back while riding and has useful features like a protected flap under the front zipper and a large kangaroo pocket for storage.

If you prefer a stretchy, high-visibility cycling jacket, Showers Pass’ Cloudburst jacket is a great option for road biking. It does not have a hood, which is ideal for wearing a helmet while cycling.

For hiking, the redesigned Arc’teryx Beta jacket with a new PFAS-free Gore-Tex ePE membrane is a standout option. The jacket is lighter, thinner, and more sustainable than previous models, with features like a soft backer fabric, recycled nylon face fabric, and a C0 DWR coating for eco-friendly protection from wind and rain. I have tested this jacket on all-day hikes in the windy and rainy Oregon coast, and it has kept me dry and comfortable.
