The purpose of displays of power is to demonstrate power itself. When liberals criticize the methods used by their leftist allies, they are missing this point. Riots, roadblocks, and similar actions are not meant to persuade based on rational arguments but to exercise power, which can be persuasive on its own.
Power can compel compliance even when the cause behind it is not reasonable. The current mobs in the streets and on campuses may achieve their goals through intimidation rather than persuasion. The focus is not on the righteousness of their cause but on their ability to exert control and influence outcomes, whether by driving people off campus or disrupting public infrastructure.
These efforts rely on the support of those in positions of authority, such as mayors, prosecutors, and university presidents, who acquiesce to the demands of the radical left. Leftists are often given more leeway to engage in disruptive and illegal activities compared to other groups, with minimal consequences when they are held accountable.
The failure of both Democrats and Republicans to effectively address the actions of left-wing radicals allows them to dominate public spaces and dictate the discourse. If radicals are not held accountable for their violent and destructive behavior, they will continue to find ways to justify and escalate their actions. This dynamic reinforces a power imbalance where rule-breakers are rewarded rather than punished.
Conservatives must respond by enforcing the law and prosecuting criminal behavior, especially when authorities have jurisdiction. Instead of dismissing disorder in Democrat-run areas, conservatives should offer a real alternative and prioritize law and order when in power. By taking action against radical leftists and protecting civil rights, conservatives can push back against the influence of the radical left and hold them accountable for their actions.
