A recent survey conducted by the Economist/YouGov found that less than half of respondents strongly believe that former President Donald Trump will be convicted in his criminal trial by Democrat District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
The survey asked participants if they think Trump will be convicted of a crime in a case where Bragg charged him with 34 felonies related to falsifying business documents. Only 26 percent of respondents believe Trump will be convicted, while one-third think he will not be convicted and 41 percent are unsure of the outcome.
There is a divide in opinions along party lines, with 46 percent of Republicans believing Trump will not be convicted, while 37 percent of Democrats think he will be convicted. Independents are mostly unsure about the outcome.
The survey, conducted among 1,651 U.S. adult citizens from April 21-23, also found that 40 percent of intended 2024 voters for President Biden believe Trump will be convicted, compared to 43 percent of intended Trump 2024 voters who think he will not be convicted.
During the trial, Trump criticized what he called the “Biden trials” and accused his political opponents of using legal cases to interfere with the election and prevent him from campaigning. Despite these challenges, Trump remains optimistic about his campaign prospects, citing positive poll numbers.
An AP/NORC survey released in April showed that only 35 percent of respondents believe Trump did something illegal in relation to the criminal case brought against him in Manhattan.
