A man who narrowly missed out on a surfing trip where all three people were killed expressed shock upon hearing of their deaths but still plans to return to Mexico to surf in the future.

Mexican authorities have three suspects in custody related to the deaths of American Jack Carter Rhoad and Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson. The suspects allegedly intended to steal the victims’ truck for its tires.

The bodies of the three men were discovered in a well, covered up by boards, and found to have been shot to death.

Surfing photographer Randy Dible had initially planned to join the trio but had to cancel due to work obligations. He had never felt unsafe traveling to Mexico’s Baja California peninsula before this incident.

Despite the tragedy, Dible plans to return to the area, noting that surfers are rarely targeted in Mexico. However, he acknowledges that the presence of cartels in Mexico has increased the danger for tourists and impacted tourism in the region.
