When shopping for bikes online, or any product for that matter, one must weigh the price against the benefits. Gazelle has introduced their latest electric bike, the Eclipse, as a luxurious long-range cruiser. Dubbed as the expensive Dutch counterpart to Rad Power Bikes’ Radster Road, the Eclipse boasts of superior comfort and quality.
During my test ride, I pondered over the price disparity until I realized a key factor contributing to my enhanced comfort – the Eclipse’s narrower handlebars. Unlike other direct-to-consumer bikes I have tried, the Eclipse’s handlebars are slimmer, offering a unique level of comfort. This attention to detail is characteristic of Royal Dutch Gazelle, a venerable company with over a century of experience and a royal warrant in the Netherlands for their high-quality products.
The Eclipse comes in two models – the T11+ HMB with Shimano Deore XT derailleur gear and the version I tested, the C380+ with Enviolo CVT gear hub and Gates belt drive. Both models are available in step-over and step-through designs, catering to various frame sizes including a compact 46-centimeter option. Additionally, all bikes are UL certified for safety compliance.
One notable feature of the Eclipse is the Bosch Performance Line motor with 85 nm of torque and a 750-Wh battery integrated into the downtube. This powerful combination allows for a maximum speed of 28 miles per hour on this class 3 ebike, offering an impressive range of up to 45 miles even when tackling hills and carrying gear.
