AMD has also been focusing on artificial intelligence alongside Intel’s new Core Ultra CPUs. Since mid-2023, AMD has integrated neural processing units (NPUs) into many of its Ryzen processors, expanding its AI capabilities. This was evident in Acer’s latest gaming laptop, the Nitro 17 (model AN17-42-R9TH), which features an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 graphics processor for enhanced AI performance.

Despite its impressive specs under the hood, including 16 GB of RAM and a 1-terabyte solid-state drive, the Nitro 17 is a heavyweight in terms of design. With a 17.3-inch screen, thick 34-millimeter body, and weight exceeding 6.3 pounds, it’s one of the heaviest and thickest laptops on the market.

The laptop’s design, reminiscent of the ’90s gaming era, features sharp, angled corners and a unique screen placement that sits on a small riser. The keyboard is color-backlit with customizable zones and modes, including a numeric keypad, arrow keys, Copilot button, and Nitro key for quick access to Acer’s NitroSense software.

Ports-wise, the Nitro 17 offers plenty of connectivity options, including USB-C, HDMI, microSD card slot, Ethernet adapter, and multiple USB-A ports. While the dual exhaust fans can get a bit noisy under heavy load, the speakers provide adequate sound quality for everyday use.

In conclusion, the Acer Nitro 17 is a powerful gaming laptop with AI capabilities, sturdy design, and ample connectivity options, making it a solid choice for gamers and AI enthusiasts alike.
