President Vladimir Putin was inaugurated for his fifth term at the Kremlin in a lavish ceremony, marking the continuation of his rule over Russia. Putin, who has faced criticism for his actions including the war in Ukraine, vowed to defend the Russian Constitution and emphasized unity and resilience in his speech.

Since taking office in 1999, Putin has transformed Russia from a country in economic turmoil to a powerful entity on the global stage, albeit facing heavy sanctions from the West. His latest term, which extends until 2030, raises questions about his future actions both domestically and internationally.

Putin’s inauguration was attended by dignitaries and celebrities, including American actor Steven Seagal. Despite some diplomats boycotting the event, Putin received applause and a 30-gun salute. The ceremony also included a blessing from the head of the Russian Orthodox Church.

As Putin enters another term, his focus on national security and defense remains strong. Russian forces continue to engage in the conflict in Ukraine, while Putin seeks to establish a buffer zone to protect Russia from potential threats. The government reshuffle following the dissolution of the Russian government suggests potential changes in key positions, including the Defense Ministry.

Putin’s popularity at home is tied to promises of economic prosperity, although living costs have risen in the aftermath of the Ukraine conflict. As Putin tightens control over dissent and critics, his opponents face imprisonment, exile, or even harm.

Despite challenges and opposition, Putin’s grip on power remains firm as he embarks on another chapter in his leadership of Russia.
