A group of anti-Israel protesters disrupted the Democratic National Convention (DNC) welcome party on Sunday night, with one demonstrator rushing the stage to deliver a passionate plea for Palestinian rights.
The masked woman, who was quickly escorted off the stage by event organizers, shouted, “150,000 people are dead! You are furthering a genocide! And the Harris-Biden administration keeps on funding it!”
The protest was part of a larger effort by a pro-Palestinian coalition, which plans to hold a massive march on the DNC on Tuesday. According to Hatem Abudayyeh, a spokesperson for the coalition, tens of thousands of people are expected to take to the streets.
“Almost 270 organizations from across the US have joined our coalition to March on the DNC,” Abudayyeh told reporters. “We will be demanding an end to US aid to Israel and calling for the freedom of Palestine. We will be fighting for our rights and for justice, and we will not be silenced.”
The protest is not just about Israel and Palestine, but also about the perceived failures of the Democratic Party to deliver on its promises. During one speech, a woman denounced the Democrats for failing to deliver on promises.
“My issue with the Democratic Party is that they lie to us all the time,” she said. “They make promises they don’t keep. Why should we bother voting for them? They’re not doing anything for us. I’m tired of their lies. Every single time, they let us down.”
