Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown Gives Biden Lukewarm Endorsement, Ahead of Critical Election

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, one of the most endangered Senate Democrats, announced Monday that he will stand by President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, despite growing calls for Biden to drop out.

Brown, who is facing an uphill battle to win a fourth Senate term, stated that he is not a pundit and will continue to listen to the concerns of Ohioans, who have legitimate questions about Biden’s candidacy. His comments were seen as a lukewarm endorsement of Biden, indicating the narrow path to victory for the Democrat in the increasingly red state.

Another endangered Senate Democrat, Montana Senator Jon Tester, also made a statement on Monday, reiterating his support for Biden despite his own political struggles.

Brown will face Republican Bernie Moreno, a well-funded businessman who earned the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, in the 2024 election.

Earlier in the day, Senate Democrats canceled a scheduled meeting to discuss their growing concerns about Biden’s viability in the race and his impact on down-ticket races. The discussion will now take place during their regularly scheduled Tuesday lunch.

While Democrat Senators have publicly remained with Biden, the president has faced calls to quit his campaign from multiple House members, including powerful committee chairs Reps. Jerry Nadler and Adam Smith.

As lawmakers return to the Capitol after a week-long recess, they will be faced with a drama-hungry press corps and pressure to reveal their stance on Biden’s candidacy.
