A shooting incident occurred near the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the death of one individual. According to reports, a police officer from Columbus, Ohio shot and killed a man approximately one mile away from the main convention venue at North 14th and West Vliet streets.
The shooting took place outside the security perimeter for the event, and witnesses claimed that two men were engaged in a fight in King Park when one of the men pulled out a knife. Multiple officers responded to the scene, and the man with the knife was reportedly fired upon by several officers.
The Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge No. 9 confirmed on Facebook that members of the Columbus Division of Police, who were in Milwaukee to support local authorities with security for the event, were involved in the incident.
The shooting is not related to the RNC, according to WISN. The incident has raised concerns about security at the convention, following a recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. The would-be assassin was shot dead, and one rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, was killed while shielding his family from the gunfire.
