Sen. Mitt Romney clarified his motivations for meeting with former President Donald Trump, stating he didn’t attend to “support” the ex-president, but rather to “listen” to his plans. Romney’s unexpected trip to the meeting was reportedly necessitated by a canceled flight.

“I went to listen to what he was planning on doing if he became president,” the Utah senator emphasized. “I drew a line and said when someone has been actually found to have been sexually assaulting, that’s something I just won’t cross over in the person I would want to have as president of the United States.”

As a vocal critic of Trump, Romney has publicly opposed the former president. When Trump’s business records trial began, Romney rendered a guilty verdict, reiterating his disapproval of the ex-president.

In a later announcement, Romney revealed his decision not to seek reelection, targeting Trump’s leadership abilities in his reasoning. Trump has since endorsed Riverton, Utah, Mayor Trent Staggs, who is vying for Romney’s replacement. In his endorsement, Trump denounced Romney as a “total loser.”
