‘Late Night’ Host Seth Meyers Calls on Democrats to ‘Get Their Shit Together’

In his Closer Look segment on Wednesday, Seth Meyers, host of NBC’s Late Night, lambasted Democrats for their lack of action and seeming surrender in the wake of President Joe Biden’s dismal debate performance against former President Donald Trump. “Oh my God, Democrats, get your shit together,” Meyers implored. “You’re already admitting defeat and holding a funeral.”

The comedian urged Democrats to take immediate action, rather than moping around and feeling sorry for themselves. “If you think Biden should step aside, tell him to get out and start the process of replacing him. If you think he should stay in, get to work and right the ship now.”

Meyers was exasperated by the Democrats’ reluctance to take decisive action, saying, “No one cares how sad you guys are. Democracy is on the line.” He highlighted an ironic assertion made by the Democrats, stating that Trump wants to “jail opponents,” a claim that Trump himself has been subjected to in the 2024 election season.

The Late Night host also criticized Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi for her non-committal response when asked if Biden should stay in the presidential race. Meyers played a video clip of Pelosi saying, “I want him to do whatever he decides to do, and that’s the way it is.” Meyers sarcastically compared the Democrats’ attitude to disappointed parents talking about their child’s major. “You guys are talking about him the way disappointed parents talk about a college student’s major,” he said.

Meyers concluded by urging Democrats to get organized and take action, stating, “There’s still time to turn things around.” He begged Democrats to stop dwelling on their disappointment and start working to reverse their fortunes.
