LAS VEGAS — A child sexual predator who was wanted in the U.S. and fled to the Philippines has died, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Alan Buitre, 61, was sought for a supervised release violation, following his initial conviction for possessing child pornography.

The U.S. Marshals sought the public’s assistance in locating Buitre during a “Manhunt Monday” segment that aired on May 6. He was suspected to be either in Las Vegas or the Philippines.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Ray Venegas said that after the segment aired, a tip was received indicating Buitre had died in the Philippines the previous year. It was later confirmed that he passed away due to alcohol-related complications.

Court records revealed that Buitre was found with over 600 images depicting child sexual abuse. Some of the material was described as sadistic or masochistic, including content involving a child under the age of 12.

Buitre was sentenced to five years in prison and placed under lifetime supervision. He violated his probation by admitting to watching adult pornography twice. Buitre ceased communication with his probation officer in 2018, according to the U.S. Marshals.
