The House unanimously approved a bill to rename a post office in Louisiana after former Rep. Luke Letlow, who passed away over three years ago due to complications from COVID-19. The Rayville post office will now be known as the Luke Letlow Post Office Building, thanks to a bill sponsored by Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) and co-sponsored by Letlow’s wife, Rep. Julia Letlow (R-LA), who now holds the seat her husband was supposed to fill.

Julia Letlow expressed her gratitude for the recognition of her late husband’s dedication to Louisiana’s 5th District and his passion for public service. She mentioned that Luke would have been honored to have the post office named after him, considering it a fitting memorial to his legacy in their hometown.

Following a special election, Julia Letlow won her late husband’s seat and went on to win re-election in 2022 with a significant majority of the vote. Luke Letlow, who had won the election for the 5th Congressional District, tragically passed away on December 29, 2020, just days before being sworn into office, succumbing to COVID-19 complications.
