As the presidential election heats up, Vice President Kamala Harris and her campaign are trying to portray Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as an unsuitable choice for vice president. However, their efforts may be undermined by the baggage carried by Harris’s own running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN).

A recent Monmouth poll revealed that many voters are unfamiliar with Walz, which may be a blessing in disguise given his questionable record as governor. Walz’s personal history is also marred by controversy, including a 1995 arrest for drunk driving and allegations of stolen valor.

During his congressional campaign, Walz downplayed the drunk driving incident as a “misunderstanding,” but the issue has resurfaced, with CNN host Michael Smerconish noting that the DUI charge is more significant than the stolen valor allegation due to Walz’s subsequent lies about the incident.

Walz has also faced criticism for his handling of Islamic groups in Minnesota, including awarding over $2 million to an organization linked to an al Qaeda affiliate. Additionally, he has been accused of promoting a pro-Adolf Hitler film and referring to a Muslim cleric who supported the film as a “master teacher.”

In contrast, Vance’s views on abortion and women have been characterized as extreme by the Left, but his stance on leaving the issue to the states is more centrist than radical. A recent interview with CNN’s Dana Bash also shed light on Vance’s comments about “childless cat ladies,” which he explained as a critique of Harris’s anti-family ideology.

As the election approaches, the Harris campaign will likely try to paint Vance as a threat to the country, but the facts suggest that Walz’s personal history and actions are more concerning. The Harris-Walz team may be trying to present Walz as a folksy, harmless figure, but his record tells a different story.
