Gloria Allred, the attorney for Halyna Hutchins’ family — the cinematographer who tragically died on the New Mexico set of the movie Rust — has criticized actor Alec Baldwin for launching a family reality series just a month prior to his involuntary manslaughter trial.

The new TV series will document Baldwin, his wife Hilaria, and their seven children in their daily routines. Allred, however, contends that Baldwin’s actions are a calculated effort to mend his contentious and often divisive reputation just before his trial in the death of Hutchins.

“This appears to me to be a calculated and cynical public relations move to try to influence the jury pool in New Mexico to think of him as a sympathetic family man rather than as the killer of Halyna Hutchins,” Allred told TMZ.

Allred added that Hutchins was “the beloved daughter of our clients Olga Solovey, Halyna’s mother, Anatolii Androsovych, Halyna’s father, and Svetlana Zemko, Halyna’s sister.” Hutchins is also survived by her husband, Matthew, and their young child.

Hutchins’ husband previously sued Baldwin after the incident, resulting in an out-of-court settlement in October 2022.

An individual involved in the Rust production has already been convicted in relation to the shooting. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer, was convicted and received the maximum sentence of 18 months in jail for involuntary manslaughter.

Baldwin eventually completed principal filming on Rust last year, nearly three years after the fatal incident brought production to a halt. It remains uncertain if the film will ever be released.
