Recently, Nintendo-related content has been disappearing from Garry’s Mod, a popular sandbox game and modding platform on Steam. The takedown requests are coming directly from Nintendo, as confirmed by creator Garry Newman of Facepunch Studios. The studio is working to comply with the requests, urging users to delete any Nintendo-related uploads.

Nintendo has a history of aggressively protecting its copyrights, targeting emulator creators, homebrew tools, fanmade games, parodies, and more. Even major mod platforms avoid hosting content that could attract a Nintendo copyright claim. Facepunch Studios acknowledges Nintendo’s right to control its content and is cooperating with the takedown requests.

Some members of the Garry’s Mod community are rushing to archive Nintendo-related content before it disappears. In response to these takedowns, new add-ons mocking Nintendo have started to appear in the store, but it is uncertain if they will also be removed.

Neither Nintendo nor Newman have commented on the situation.
