With the Paris 2024 Olympics just around the corner, rapper Flavor Flav has expressed his support for the U.S. women’s water polo team. He believes that these talented athletes should not have to juggle multiple side jobs in order to compete at the highest level.
Flavor Flav, also known as William Jonathan Drayton Jr., made this declaration on X, emphasizing his commitment to sponsor and support team captain Maggie Steffens. This endorsement came after Steffens took to Instagram to highlight the challenges faced by her teammates, who work as teachers, business owners, coaches, and more while training for the Olympics.
Despite some sponsorship from USA Water Polo, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and other suppliers, the women’s water polo team still relies on outside support. The athletes are currently in Paris for test games, where they have already shown their strength by defeating France.
Flavor Flav even tried to treat the team to tickets for Taylor Swift’s concert in Paris, a gesture that the popstar matched by providing complimentary tickets for the players. This camaraderie and support are essential as the U.S. team aims to uphold their status as the only non-European team to have medaled in water polo, with a record-breaking winning streak of three gold medals since 2012.
In contrast, the U.S. men’s water polo team has not secured a medal since 2008, with Hungary dominating the men’s competition with a four-game streak in gold medals. Despite these challenges, both the men’s and women’s teams are determined to showcase their skills and bring glory to the United States in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
