Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has announced she will not attend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress next month, citing her opposition to his leadership during the Israel-Hamas conflict. Warren’s decision comes after months of criticizing Netanyahu’s actions, including her statement that there is “ample evidence” that Israel is committing “genocide” in Gaza.

Warren’s comments echo those of other Democrats, including progressive leaders such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Schumer has criticized Netanyahu’s willingness to tolerate the civilian toll in Gaza, saying it is pushing support for Israel worldwide to historic lows.

Netanyahu has faced criticism after a report emerged that his government ignored warnings Hamas was planning an attack on Jewish civilians. His son defended him on social media, saying he was not updated on the material discovered in the report.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has also announced he will boycott the speech, citing Netanyahu’s “right-wing, extremist government” and the 37,000 Palestinians it has killed.

Warren’s decision to boycott Netanyahu’s speech follows multiple progressive Democrats vowing the same, including Reps. Greg Casar (D-TX), Maxwell Frost (D-FL), and Jamaal Bowman (D-NY).
