During his final pregame press conference of the NBA regular season, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich passionately advocated for stricter gun control measures. Spending about nine minutes addressing the media, Popovich expressed his desire for tougher gun regulations and called the Second Amendment a “myth.” He questioned whether it was fair for children to live in fear of school shootings and criticized Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s proposal to increase the number of police officers in schools.

Popovich also spoke out against the expulsion of Democratic Tennessee state Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson, suggesting that their removal from the legislature was racially motivated. Blaming the lack of stricter gun control on lobbyists and gun manufacturers, Popovich called out legislators for prioritizing their jobs and money over the safety of children.

In a passionate plea, Popovich urged lawmakers to prioritize gun safety laws that are supported by the majority of the public, rather than succumbing to fear of losing their jobs or power. He challenged them to consider what is truly important and to put the well-being of children above their own interests.
