Actress Cate Blanchett sparked debate at the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France this week by wearing a gown reminiscent of the Palestinian flag.
The gown features a skirt lining in a shade of green similar to the Palestinian flag while the back is pale pink, the front is black, and the red carpet matches the rest of the flag. Blanchett made it a point to lift the back of the skirt to reveal its green lining.
Last year, Blanchett was one of 55 actors and entertainment industry insiders who signed a letter urging President Joe Biden to advocate for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
“We urge your administration, and all world leaders, to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay — an end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages,” the letter Blanchett signed states.
