Many individuals, particularly younger voters, are questioning President Joe Biden’s assertion that they have the financial means to spend, as some admit to going without food for a day last month. In a unique survey focusing on the impact of inflation, Zogby Analytics revealed that minorities, young voters, and individuals with only a high school education are experiencing food insecurity. Overall, 14% of respondents stated they had gone without food at least once in the past month.

The survey highlighted that African American and Hispanic voters, key demographics for Biden’s reelection campaign, are feeling the effects of inflation and high food prices. Younger African American and Hispanic individuals were significantly more likely to experience food insecurity compared to older adults. The CEO of Zogby Analytics, Jonathan Zogby, emphasized the importance of addressing inflation and food insecurity to prevent further challenges for minority communities and to maintain support from African American and Hispanic voters.

Recent remarks from Biden dismissing concerns about inflation have not resonated well with those facing financial difficulties. With inflation remaining high and jobless claims increasing, there are growing concerns about the success of Biden’s economic policies. If food insecurity persists among minority voters and inflation continues unchecked, it could impact Biden’s reelection prospects in the upcoming fall elections.

The analysis from Zogby raises the possibility that African American and Hispanic voters experiencing hardship may shift their support to other candidates, potentially affecting the outcome of the election. To secure continued support from these vital demographics, Biden must focus on highlighting his achievements and addressing the economic challenges faced by minority communities. Failure to do so may jeopardize his chances of securing a second term in office.
