North Carolina Congressman Dan Bishop is making waves as he prepares to leave Washington, D.C. Bishop, who is a candidate for attorney general in his home state, took to social media to criticize the Biden administration for its recent federal power move. Despite settling a federal lawsuit by agreeing to dissolve the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the reconvening of the Election Threats Task Force just six business days later.

Bishop expressed his disdain for what he called the “Censorship Industrial Complex,” noting that when one facet is shut down, another seemingly pops up in its place. He vowed to continue rooting out these entities wherever they may appear.

Having won his spot in Congress in a 2019 special election, Bishop opted not to seek reelection this year in order to pursue the state attorney general position. The recent developments surrounding the disbandment of the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group and the establishment of the Election Threats Task Force have drawn scrutiny from Bishop and other Republicans.

Despite the criticisms, Attorney General Garland emphasized the importance of the Election Threats Task Force in addressing threats of violence and intimidation against election workers. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco highlighted the use of artificial intelligence as a growing threat to elections, noting that threats made using AI are still considered violent threats.

The Justice Department has faced backlash from Republicans, with Bishop joining the chorus of voices expressing concerns over the handling of cases involving the president and the administration’s actions. A letter authored by Indiana’s Todd Rokita accused the Biden administration of “weaponizing” the Department of Justice against the states.
