In a bid to boost his standing among donors, Joe Biden has once again enlisted the support of Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro, just a day after his turbulent debate performance. The Biden campaign distributed an email fundraiser on Friday, featuring De Niro’s praise for the President’s “decency, compassion, and honest, intelligent leadership.”
The message, however, made no mention of Thursday’s presidential debate, during which Biden’s performance was widely panned. De Niro, known for his scathing criticism of Donald Trump in the past, instead targeted the president’s character, labeling him a “wannabe tough guy” without morals or ethics.
This is not De Niro’s first collaboration with the Biden campaign. In May, he shared a similar message with supporters, just one day after a heated press conference where he exchanged profanities with Trump supporters. De Niro’s involvement in these fundraising efforts may be seen as a further attempt to bolster Biden’s image after his underwhelming debate appearance.
During the debate, Biden appeared dazed and disoriented at times, often struggling to articulate his thoughts clearly. In one bizarre moment, he seemed to lose his train of thought, stammering incoherently before regaining composure to declare “we finally beat Medicare.” Biden’s performance further deteriorated throughout the evening, causing him to stumble through his final remarks.
Despite these setbacks, the Biden campaign refuses to consider withdrawing from the race. A campaign advisor confirmed that there are no plans for the President to withdraw from the election.
