A new initiative, the Secure Emerging Mobility Corridor, launched by Mexico’s National Institute of Migration (INM), has brought the first busload of migrants to the US-Mexico border. The program, backed by the Biden-Harris Administration’s CBP One app, provides free transportation, meals, and security to migrants from Central and South America, facilitating their entry into the United States.
The program was introduced following a meeting between US President Joe Biden and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Under this initiative, migrants can schedule appointments at US ports of entry using the CBP One smartphone app, which allows them to claim asylum and potentially gain permanent entry into the country. Over 500,000 undocumented migrants use this app annually.
The CBP One program differs from the US’s reinstated policies for Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan migrants, which permit over 1,000 migrants to enter the country daily. Combined, these programs enable over 800,000 migrants to enter the US daily, seeking asylum under the Biden-Harris Administration.
The launch of this program comes as concerns about border security continue to grow. Recently, Alexis Nungaray, the mother of a 12-year-old girl murdered by Venezuelan migrants, testified about the dangers posed by the current border policies. Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel and Franklin Jose Peña Ramos, both of whom were enrolled in the Alternatives to Detention program, were accused of strangling the girl to death and dumping her body in a river.
Nungaray attributed the tragedy to the Biden-Harris Administration’s open border policies, which allowed the perpetrators to enter the country. “They were released into the United States, and it was not even three weeks later that they took my daughter Jocelyn’s life,” she said.
House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) plans to highlight the consequences of the Biden-Harris Administration’s border policies, citing the devastating impact on American communities. “Moms who lost a loved one to violent migrants,” Jordan said, noting that the administration has allowed 10 million people to enter the country in three and a half years, including 99 individuals on the terrorist watchlist.
