The parents of two Australian surfers who were tragically found dead in Baja California, Mexico last week spoke out publicly on Tuesday, sharing heartfelt statements about their sons.
Debra Robinson, the mother of Jake and Callum Robinson, sadly announced, “It is with heavy hearts that we share that Callum and Jake have been murdered. Our hearts are broken and the world has become a darker place for us.”
According to reports, Jake and Callum were on a surfing trip with their friend Jack Carter Rhoad when they went missing. Their bodies were later discovered in La Bocana, about 130 miles south of San Diego.
Robinson described Callum as a “loveable, larger-than-life character” and Jake as a “happy, gentle and compassionate soul” pursuing a career in medicine. She expressed gratitude for the support received from friends, family, and government agencies.
The men’s father, Martin Robinson, thanked the Australian ambassador to Mexico and everyone who has supported them during this difficult time. Authorities confirmed that the men were killed by thieves attempting to steal their truck for its tires.
A candlelight vigil was held in honor of the three men, and fundraisers have been set up to support their families and memorial services. One suspect has been taken into custody, while others are still being sought in connection with the killings.
