Democratic Silence on Trump’s Conviction Raises Concerns

Are Democrats so fearful of dissent within their ranks that none will challenge their party’s ushering in of a politically unstable era, or is the entire party inclining toward another crisis like Jan. 6?

For the past three years, Democrats have warned that Donald Trump’s return to the White House would herald a dictatorship intent on dismantling democracy. Liz Cheney encapsulated this fear in her recent memoir: “As a nation, we can endure damaging policies for a four-year term. But we cannot survive a president willing to terminate our Constitution.”

However, Thursday marked a significant turn when Democrats fulfilled a primary policy objective by securing the criminal conviction of their primary political opponent. President Joe Biden now exhibits qualities Democrats previously accused Trump of, drawing comparisons to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Yet, no prominent Democrats have condemned this latest institutional challenge. Instead, Democrats are reportedly “giddy.”

Out of the three — Trump, Biden, and Putin — who has manipulated elections by jailing their top political adversary? Who has utilized federal censorship to silence political opposition? Whose security forces were reportedly authorized to eliminate his chief rival during a raid on the opposition?

American democracy is on a path toward totalitarianism. While the Capitol riot should not have occurred, imprisoning political opponents poses a far more significant threat to the republic.

The chaos at the Capitol was a brief episode incited by pro-Trump supporters who believed the 2020 election was fraudulent. The criminal conviction of the current regime’s main opposition leader will convince many voters that another election is being tampered with. Although our institutions withstood the Capitol unrest, they faltered on Thursday when the judicial system became a tool of aggressive partisan tactics.

Democrats had already been compromising the fall election by increasing censorship and appointing their own election observers. The Honest Elections Project (HEP) and the John Locke Foundation reported last year on a coalition of activist groups aiming to “systematically influence every aspect of election administration.” The $80 million initiative includes the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), a group funded by Mark Zuckerberg, which spent millions organizing elections four years ago to boost Democratic turnout. The CTCL is now training election workers for upcoming races after 28 states prohibited “Zuckbucks” from managing elections due to conflicts of interest.

Even before voters cast the first ballots, Democrats have skewed the contest by preventing the president from campaigning. Trump is consistently silenced by activist judges from commenting on the politically charged trials. He is also kept off the campaign trail and continuously tied up in court proceedings as Democrats aim to financially ruin and imprison him.

Trump’s absence from his hallmark campaign rallies is significant. These rallies are a staple of the 77-year-old’s campaign strategy, allowing him to energize swing-state voters directly while collecting crucial data. Reuters noted that his team uses these rallies to gather and analyze attendee information to convert it into votes:

The Trump campaign uses the rallies to collect and analyze attendee data, in the hope of turning it into votes. People register with the campaign, providing email, cell phone number, zip code and state, in return for a text message which serves as a ticket. After the rally, attendees are flooded with text messages, including fundraising appeals from Trump.

Trump’s rallies are also crucial for volunteer recruitment and local media coverage. By keeping Trump off the campaign trail and under judicial gag orders, Democrats have effectively hindered their main challenger from participating in the election. Yet, the same party that obstructs a fair election process will still label Republicans who raise objections as “election deniers” to justify unprecedented censorship measures.
