Despite these claims, there is now an attempt to suppress audio of the interview where Hur let Biden off the hook. Merrick Garland, the Attorney General, is arguing that the audio falls under executive privilege, even though Hur was not an adviser to the president and the conversation has already been transcribed.
Biden’s own misrepresentation of the facts in the interview, where he falsely claimed he didn’t remember when his son died, raises more questions about his mental state. The White House’s attempt to suppress the audio suggests that it could reveal more concerning interactions.
The argument made by the White House that the audio is “constitutionally protected law enforcement material” and cannot be used for political purposes is unfounded. Republicans raising concerns about Biden’s mental fitness for office is a legitimate issue that should be investigated by journalists for the sake of transparency and accountability.
