Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president, used the 2024 vice presidential debate to spread false information about pro-life laws and advance the Democratic Party’s extreme abortion agenda.

Walz began by lamenting the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson decision, which allowed Republican states to enact popular pro-life limits. He claimed that these laws have led to “horrific” pregnancy complications and denied treatment to women in need. However, Walz’s claims were debunked by the fact that pro-life protections passed by GOP states include exceptions for abortion when necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman.

Walz also invoked the story of Amber Thurman, a Georgia woman who died after taking the abortion pill. However, he falsely claimed that Thurman was denied a dilation and curettage procedure due to Georgia’s pro-life law, when in fact, the law specifically carves out exceptions for such procedures to prevent the death of the pregnant woman.

Walz also attempted to tie his abortion talking points to the issue of birth control and in vitro fertilization, claiming that Republican states want to ban these services. However, this claim is also false, as no state has seriously considered banning IVF or intrauterine insemination. In fact, several state legislatures have shielded the creation and destruction of embryos with promises of immunity.

Walz’s misinformation campaign is part of a larger effort by Democrats to advance their extreme abortion agenda, which prioritizes the interests of Big Fertility over the lives of innocent unborn children. Despite the fact that thousands of lives are saved every year thanks to pro-life legislation, Walz and his party continue to push for the expansion of abortion access and the elimination of pro-life protections.
