A sea of supporters, estimated to be over 105,000 strong, gathered in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday to welcome back former President Donald Trump, just a few months after he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in the same city.

The crowd erupted in cheers as Trump took the stage, a testament to his enduring popularity among his base. The event was also a poignant tribute to the victims of the July 13 shooting, particularly former Pennsylvania fire chief Corey Comperatore, who lost his life in the incident.

As Trump began his speech, a familiar sight appeared on the screen behind him – the chart showing illegal border crossings that he credits with saving his life. The chart had been displayed at the July 13 rally, and Trump had turned to look at it just as the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, began firing, causing him to miss his shot.

At 6:11 p.m., exactly 12 weeks after the assassination attempt, Trump paused for a moment of silence to honor Comperatore’s memory. The somber moment was followed by a rendition of Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria” performed by opera singer Christopher Macchio.

The rally also honored two supporters, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, who were severely injured during the July 13 shooting. Their presence was a powerful reminder of the bravery and resilience of Trump’s supporters.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk made a surprise appearance at the rally, urging Trump supporters to exercise their right to vote. “This will be the last election” if they don’t, he warned, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement.
