Trump Lawyer: Jail Won’t Stop His Presidential Campaign

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba assured the public that not even jail would stop his presidential campaign.

Habba discussed the latest developments in the campaign during an interview on the BBC, which aired a preview Saturday. The full interview with anchor Laura Kuenssberg will be released Sunday.

“[Trump] is running for president,” Habba emphasized. “Nothing will change that.”

“Even if he ends up being locked up?” Kuenssberg inquired.

“I recommend you find the latest pause in this country from the people that live in this country, the people that need him in this country because frankly, it’s more important than anything anybody else thinks,” Habba responded. “Our people are speaking loudly, they’re donating, they’re small donors, and they’re standing up because they’re afraid because we cannot have this happen to us.”

Despite Trump losing his trial, it has coincided with an increase in financial support for the Republican presidential candidate. The Trump campaign raised $1.5 million after the first day in court and doubled that amount three days later, with more donations contributing to $76 million raised in April alone. Within the first 24 hours following the verdict, Trump’s campaign garnered $52.8 million.

Trump himself has not shown any signs of halting his 2024 campaign. Instead, he assured supporters outside the courthouse that he is still “fighting for our country.”

Judge Juan Merchan is scheduled to sentence Trump on July 11, right before the Republican National Convention, where the former president is expected to be named the party’s presidential nominee.
