House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) stated on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the guilty verdict for former President Donald Trump in the New York business document trial represented a “validation of the American judicial system.”
Guest host Peter Alexander began, “I want to start by asking you about this historic verdict. President Biden opened his remarks on Friday by asserting it is irresponsible for anyone to declare the verdict rigged simply because they disagree with it. This case is eight years old, raising questions about the validity and the untested legal theory used for prosecution. Would this case have been brought against anyone other than former President Trump?”
He continued, “That is an affirmation of the American judicial system. This is America, where we do not operate under a monarch, king, or dictator. We are a democracy, and in a democracy, no one is above the law.”
