Former President Donald Trump is set to make an appearance at one of the most highly anticipated college football matchups of the season, as the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide takes on the University of Georgia’s Bulldogs on September 28.
According to a source close to Trump’s campaign, the former president will be in attendance at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the highly charged game. This will not be Trump’s first time attending a major sporting event, as he has a history of showing up at high-profile games throughout his presidency and beyond.
Trump has previously attended the annual Army-Navy game, the College Football Playoff national championship game, the World Series, and the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race. He has also been a regular at UFC events, where athletes have often acknowledged him from the ring.
Trump has a prior connection to the Crimson Tide, having attended a 2019 matchup between Alabama and LSU at Bryant-Denny Stadium. During that visit, he was met with cheers from the crowd when he appeared on the stadium’s jumbotron. Notably, it was the first time a sitting president had attended an Alabama home game.
Trump’s decision to attend the game comes at a time when security concerns are heightened, given the two reported assassination attempts against him this year. The incident in January resulted in the death of former Pennsylvania fire chief Corey Comperatore.
Despite these concerns, Alabama Republican Party chairman John Wahl expressed enthusiasm for Trump’s visit, stating that the people of Alabama have a special bond with the former president. “We’re always excited to welcome him to our state,” Wahl said.
Trump’s decision to attend the game may also be seen as a strategic move, given Georgia’s status as a key swing state in the upcoming election.
