Former President Donald Trump asserted he’s been “under siege” following his felony conviction in New York and while facing three additional criminal cases across the country.

The Republican presidential contender sat down with Sean Hannity on Fox News Wednesday evening, alleging that Democrats aim to incarcerate him despite his claim of having committed “no crime.”

“What they’re doing to me, if it’s going to continue, we really aren’t going to have much of a country,” Trump remarked. “It is a weaponization of the election and, I think, the most important election in the history of our country.”

Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the alleged hush money scheme intended to prevent porn star Stormy Daniels from discussing their alleged sexual encounter. The former president maintains his innocence and denies the affair ever occurred. Trump’s other indictments involve two separate claims of election interference in the 2020 election and the retention of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Hannity questioned Trump about whether he intends to halt what he termed the “weaponization” by the Department of Justice—an allegation the Biden administration has firmly denied. It should be noted that the DOJ has no control over the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, which brought the New York indictment against Trump.

“I know you want me to say something so nice, but I don’t want to look naive. … There is tremendous criminality here,” Trump alleged.

Since the conviction in New York, Trump, his campaign, and his staunchest supporters have echoed the sentiment that the country has become a “banana republic,” comparing the United States to a “Third World country.”
