Former President Donald Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “maybe the greatest salesman of any politician,” highlighting how Zelensky frequently secures large sums of money from the U.S. whenever he visits. Trump commented that Zelensky seems to leave with “$60 billion” each time he comes to America.

“I’ll stop Joe Biden’s inflation-causing spending spree and oppose an immediate moratorium on all of Crooked Joe’s hundreds of billions of dollars in waste,” Trump stated. He criticized Biden’s spending, particularly on the Green New Deal, calling it “one of the greatest scams in history.”

Trump’s comments came as Biden and Zelensky signed a 10-year security agreement to strengthen Ukraine’s defense and economic recovery. Additionally, world leaders agreed to a $50 billion loan to Ukraine from frozen Russian assets.

“I like him,” Trump added, “but he’s the greatest salesman of all time.”

In April, the House passed a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine as part of a $95 billion total foreign aid package. The UK pledged an additional £500 million in aid to Ukraine. U.S. officials also announced $225 million in military aid, including ammunition, in early June.

A Pew Research poll showed that 31% of Americans believe the U.S. gives Ukraine too much aid, while 25% think it is “about right,” and 24% feel it is “not enough.”
