Minutes before taking to the debate stage on Thursday, former President Donald Trump made an unexpected call to Jocelyn Nungaray’s mother, Alexis. Jocelyn, 12, was tragically murdered after being raped and strangled to death by two illegal migrants.

The preteen had disappeared from her home on June 16 and was never seen alive again. Two Venezuelan nationals, Johan Jose Rangel Martinez and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, were charged with Jocelyn’s murder after allegedly luring her to a bridge, assaulting her for two hours, and subsequently strangling her.

Victoria Galvan, Alexis’s best friend, revealed that the former president’s call took the family by surprise. “He wanted to say he was praying for Alexis and that he’d been thinking about her, and he wanted to reach out. He said he’d be calling again in a couple of days. We were all really shocked.”

Jocelyn’s case has sparked a nationwide outcry, amplifying discussions about the open southern border and its impact on national security.

During a recent appearance on Fox News’s Hannity, Jocelyn’s grandfather, Kelvin Alvarenga, echoed the sentiment that the country’s borders must be reinforced. Alexis added that “we have to stop burying our kids. This is not right. We have to have more reinforcement when it comes to letting people in. This is not okay.”

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg corroborated these concerns, stating, “We see a great deal of violence committed by illegal immigrants,” and that Jocelyn’s murder was an inevitable consequence of unchecked border crossings. The Democrat prosecutor emphasized that border officials are facing overwhelming pressure due to the sheer volume of criminal activity committed by immigrants entering the country illegally.
