At the Republican National Convention on Thursday, Trump attorney Alina Habba took the stage to humanize former President Donald Trump amidst his ongoing legal battles. Habba aimed to show supporters a more personal side of Trump, describing her own experiences working with him and crediting him with empowering her to be the person she is today.

“We’re not just fighting against the Left’s attempts to discredit President Trump,” Habba said. “We’re fighting for our country’s values and our way of life. Every attack on President Trump only strengthens our movement because it shows the desperation of the opposition.”

Habba’s comments came just days after a federal judge dismissed charges against Trump related to his handling of classified documents after leaving office in 2021. The judge ruled that special counsel Jack Smith was unlawfully appointed and that the funding of his office was unconstitutional.

Trump’s defense team challenged the legality of Smith’s appointment and the funding of his office, leading to a complex legal battle over constitutional principles and statutory interpretation. The court ultimately sided with Trump, emphasizing the importance of the appointments clause in maintaining the separation of powers and ensuring democratic accountability.

Habba’s speech highlighted her role as a key member of Trump’s campaign team, having spent years as his attorney and gaining national recognition in that capacity. However, she did not represent Trump in the classified documents case. Habba has represented Trump in several other cases, including a federal civil lawsuit filed by his former attorney Michael Cohen and a New York case where he was accused of falsely misrepresenting the value of his assets.
