A tragic incident occurred in east Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday around 1:30 p.m. as a U.S. marshal and two police officers were killed while trying to serve a warrant. According to NBC News, the marshal and officers were part of the Fugitive Task Force when they were shot, along with another task force member and four additional officers. The warrant was issued for an individual suspected of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
The Charlotte Observer reported that one of the injured individuals is in critical condition. The suspect engaged in gunfire with law enforcement, resulting in officers shooting back and fatally injuring the suspect.
Charlotte Metropolitan Police Department Chief Johnny Jennings described the incident as the worst shooting of law enforcement he has witnessed in his 30-year career. The situation remains under investigation.
